EltaMD UV Stick SPF 50+

This roll-on sunscreen has zinc oxide as its ultraviolet-screening ingredient. It’s fragrance-free, though it has the scent of wet clay, and rolls on smoothly. It shields skin very well against the ultraviolet A rays that can cause DNA damage in skin cells, but its performance for SPF (ultraviolet B—the rays that cause sunburn) was not as good in CR’s tests.

Neutrogena Beach Defense Water + Sun Protection Spray SPF 50

One of the top performers in CR’s tests, this spray has a moderately strong tropical, fruity aroma and leaves a slight greasy film and a notable sheen on the skin.

Omron Silver BP5250 (Amazon)

This arm monitor was highly accurate in CR’s tests and earned strong marks for convenience and comfort. It features an irregular heartbeat detector and a BP risk category indicator, and includes a one-size-fits-most cuff. It also has the ability to sync to the Omron Connect app via Bluetooth.

Omron Platinum BP5450 (Amazon)

This arm monitor, which performed admirably in CR’s tests for accuracy, convenience, and comfort, has an irregular heartbeat detector and a BP risk category indicator, and includes a one-size-fits-most cuff. It allows multiple users to store readings separately and can sync to the Omron Connect app via Bluetooth.

iHealth KN550BT

According to CR’s tests, this arm monitor has excellent accuracy and also earned high marks for convenience and comfort. It features an irregular heartbeat detector, a BP risk category indicator, a data averaging function, a one-size-fits-most cuff, and the ability to sync via Bluetooth to the iHealth MyVitals app.

Amazfit Band 5

If you’re a walker who wants a very low-cost, basic fitness tracker, the Amazfit Band 5 should be on your shopping list. The model offers sleep and stress-tracking capabilities but doesn’t have built-in GPS or the ability to load a music playlist. Our testers find the Amazfit Band 5 quite easy to use, and they report that it counts steps accurately. For heart rate monitoring, however, the Amazfit ranks near the bottom of our ratings, so if you rely on heart rate data for training, you should consider buying a device that delivers better performance.

Fitbit Charge 5

The Charge 5 has the workout-related functions of Fitbit’s other fitness trackers, while adding smartwatch-like features like stress tracking and heart rhythm alerts that are aimed at monitoring your overall wellness, even while you’re sitting at your desk. According to our testers, the Charge 5 performs well in ease of use, ease of interaction, versatility, and readability in bright light.

Renpho R3 Massage Gun

The Renpho R3 massage gun might be the best all-around device for most average users because it’s small and lightweight, and relatively quiet compared with other devices. But it’s not the ideal choice for people who want the most intense massage or the best model to massage areas on the back.

The pistol grip could add some postural stress compared with some of the other devices, though its light weight and small form could help alleviate stress for some. As a bonus, this can be charged with a standard USB-C charging cable.

REATHLETE DEEP4s

The DEEP4s comes with an adjustable arm and a triangle-shaped handle, though it’s not as ergonomically friendly as the Theragun devices when it comes to finding an optimal grip. By experimenting with its adjustable arm, users may be able to reach their backs better with this device than with some others. But the display and control buttons may make this device harder to use than some others. While this isn’t the most effective of the triangle-shaped handles, it’s nice to have a more affordable option with an adjustable arm.

Theragun Prime

This percussive massage device with a triangle-shaped handle earned an excellent score for handle ergonomics and comfort, and is quite easy to use, with straightforward controls. It’s one of the louder massage guns we’ve tested but is thoughtfully designed and comes with a carry bag.

Theragun Pro

While this is the loudest and priciest percussive massager we’ve evaluated, it is also one of the best at reaching areas on the back, with one of the best triangle-shaped ergonomic handles and attachments that lock onto the arm in a satisfying way. It’s an excellent choice for people who want to be able to at least somewhat reach their upper and middle back on their own, and for use in a professional or sports setting.

Echelon EX-5S

The Echelon EX-5S has a 22-inch touchscreen display (AC-powered) for connected classes and browsing session data. Its screen rotates for off-bike exercises, with many different exercise programs available through its subscription service Echelon Connect, which costs $40 per month or $400 per year. You can adjust the bike’s resistance by turning a knob. This bike uses SPD pedal clips for use with bike shoes and has toe cages for use with other shoes. It has dual bottle holders.

GHD Platinum+ Styler

All our evaluators loved the GHD Platinum+ Styler for its speed, consistency, and ease of use. Its set temperature (365° F) is optimized and safe for all hair types, too. It took about 21 seconds for the iron to heat up, and our labs measured the temperature as just slightly above the set point. Plus, its On button is on the interior of one of its arms, making it less likely you’ll bump it—and accidentally turn it off—while styling your hair.

Hot Tools Pro Artist Black Gold Evolve Ionic Salon Hair Flat Iron (1 in.)

Nearly every stylist we’ve encountered uses Hot Tools. And while a hair stylist’s touch is certainly useful when it comes to great-looking hair, Hot Tools’ 1-inch straightener performed really well by itself for its price, heating up fast (it sits at just under 350° F) and providing a variety of heat settings (with the lowest temperature coming in at 205° F). It was easy to use and has a long cord, but don’t leave it plugged in: Auto shutoff doesn’t kick in until after 2 hours of disuse. The 1.25-inch model is also on sale at Amazon for a similar price.

Rusk W8less 2000

The Rusk W8less is a great, no-frills option for when you’re on the go. It’s lightweight, gets nice and hot, and, unlike many hotel hair dryers, doesn’t smoke and singe your hair. The W8less has three heat settings, two-speed settings, and a cool shot. It comes with one concentrator nozzle. And it has an internal ion generator plus a ceramic and tourmaline-infused grill to fight that frizz.

Drybar Buttercup

In our review of hair dryers, the Drybar Buttercup earned top marks for drying speed. Our evaluator with curly hair also found high-volume, shiny results from using the Drybar. However, the dryer felt heavy for some of our evaluators, which suggests it’s not quite well balanced. The Buttercup has three heat settings and two speed settings. It comes with two concentrator attachments, one with a wide nozzle for larger sections of hair and one with a narrow nozzle for shorter hair and bangs.

Schwinn Thrasher Adult

This inexpensive adult road-bike helmet earned high marks in CR’s tests for impact absorption, fit adjustments, and ease of use. It comes in one size, is relatively light, and has a detachable visor.

Sunny SF-T7718SMART

This folding treadmill performed very well on tests for construction and user safety. Its deck is not long enough to accommodate a longer running stride, but it’s a fine choice for walking. It can reach a top speed of 9 mph and can do a slight incline of 0.7 percent.

Marcy JX-651BW

This small, affordable folding treadmill is excellent for user safety. Its length and width make it a fine choice for walking, but it’s not long enough to accommodate longer running strides. It can reach a maximum speed of 8 mph and an incline of 6 percent.
